Fake or Real? IT’S ALL RELATIVE
Antwerp is a city known for its controversy. It is filled with art, fashion and hope. In the age of today people often forget how real or fake things are. Emerging from the fusion between historical masterpieces and humorous thoughts, a series called “FAKE” - by CB HOYO - is born. Today it has travelled all the way to Antwerp and is ready to be seen. From April 14 until 28, at Campo. We dare you to come and take a look.
WHO is CB HOYO?
Firstly, he is one rebellious man, secondly a self-taught artist who has always been surrounded by art. Born in Havana, immigrated to the Dominican Republic and now hiding away in Europe. His eye has been trained for years by visiting numerous exhibitions and painting until his hands became numb. He combines famous masterpieces with his own humorous thoughts. Giving it an artistic twist and putting his stamp on it. Crazy he is, but talented much more.
WHY is this a must see?
Worldly renowned and known for his controversial artworks full of color and humor. He has sold more paintings, than shoes that I have bought. He has appeared in numerous news outlets such as Forbes, Hypebeast, Artsy, etc…
Right now he is for the first time ever in Antwerp (Belgium), exhibiting his “Fake” series that are so true and deep, you’ll want to see them, judge them and even buy them.
His FIRST ever?
His first “FAKE” was a reproduction of an artwork by Andy Warhol. He made the painting without any additions or signs of ownership, but wasn’t satisfied with the final result, so he decided to write on it. His message was simple, direct and based on an article he had read about forgeries in the art world. The final result was astonishing.
Nothing or Something?
He says that today, artistic authenticity is no longer as obvious. In an era of social media and fake news, he questions authenticity off certain artworks in a witty manner and what is real and what is not. CB Hoyo wants to remind his audience that art is a way of expression, of having fun and that it should first and utmost bring joy.
In collaboration with Black Cod and LDV art, "It’s all relative" appears in Campo, located at Vlaamsekaai 30, 2000 Antwerp. CB Hoyo is putting himself on the map in Antwerp with a private viewing on the 13th of April 2019 where he will perform a special act on the day itself. The viewing ends with an afterparty where Ghent-based DJ Maxim Lany will play. The "It’s all relative" exhibit will be open to the general public from the April 14 until 28. Be sure to take a peek.
