D.A.T.E. 2018 :: RECAP DAY 01
With the sun already out, we were off to a great start of the second edition of D.A.T.E. 2018.
The first day’s program started with a Cyclant bike tour through Antwerp. As we made our way through the city, we got told more about the city’s unique hotspots; such as the river Scheldt, the Underpass, the Friday Market and of course the Grand Square. We ended our tour at the Botanical Gardens where we enjoyed the peace and quiet, with the sun shining on our faces.
Lunch was served at the CoFoundry, where Beyond.io gave us a presentation about their experience design studio. You might have heard about the Bike Light Lane in Brussels? Yeah, that was created by Beyond.
After getting inspired by the projects of Beyond, it was time to shine. Because at the end of this edition of D.A.T.E., we want to present the city of Antwerp with a proposal, an answer to the question “how can This is Antwerp use new tech to enhance the experience of the city’s visitors?”.
Anner, creative strategist at Beyond, asked the D.A.T.E. crew to reimagine their arrival in Antwerp and think about what they felt at that specific moment, how they wanted to feel and what could be the role of the city in creating that desired feeling. This resulted in metaphors such as: “walking in the darkness and someone putting on the light” and “a soft little push in the right direction”, where Antwerp would be the one putting on the light and giving that soft little push in the right direction. With those metaphors in mind, we had to come up with a scenario and concepts, which resulted in some promising ideas that can be used during the rest of the brainstorm sessions in the upcoming days.
After this inspiring session, we headed the SuperNova festival - a brand new, international tech and innovation fair. We listened to some inspirational speakers such as Vivienne Ming, Seth Godin folksy hangout in Borgerhout. It hosts a bar, a restaurant and different creative classes such as dancing and theater.
We got treated to some old school spaghetti and together with some wine and beers we soaked up the local experience while getting to know each other better. The perfect end to an exciting day, with inspirational people.
